The excitement of a fantastic conference – the Zimbabwe Diamond Conference came to an end on November 7th, 2014.

For those who were there, it was an excellent 2 days of learning about the direction of Zimbabwe’s diamond sector.

The speech given by the Honorable Minister, summarized the background of diamond mining in Zimbabwe and the progress made by the sector.  The Honorable minister then touched upon the challenges faced by the Zimbabwe diamond sector and how the government plans to solve them.

Hon. Minister Chidakw covered many important topics in his address,

  • He highlighted the need for skill development to have a stronger middle income class in the country.
  • Support for local cutting and polishing units by way of policy changes.
  • Recognized that the process of value addition and benficiation will require further changes and incentives.
  • The need for bringing new methods of mining to improve efficiencies in the mining sector.
  • Invited joint venture partners on Zimbabwe’s development journey which will benefit Zimbabweans and the international partners.
